Romsey Chamber Music Festival

A celebration of chamber music

of love and madness_edited.jpg

I'm delighted to be welcoming back to Romsey Luke Hsu (violin), Marthe Husum (viola) and Rainer Crosett this January for a winter residency. We are going to be visiting local schools, giving workshops and coaching sessions as well as giving two concerts in our festival home, the United Reformed Church. Our residency is centred around and culminates with Beethoven's late String Quartet, Op. 131 a work of extraordinary depth, scope and originality. Across two concerts we will be exploring string quartet works by Schumann, Haydn and Webern, Dutilleux's solo cello work Trois Strophes, and we will be joined by young musicians for Weiner's hugely entertaining Hungarian Dances.

We will be launching our 2024 Festival Programme at the concert on 19th January and we will be serving refreshments at the end of the concert, so I hope you can join us! The URC is heated, and I can't wait to share all of this incredible music with you to kick off our 2024 concerts.

We will then be travelling to London for a fundraising concert at the incredible Clock Tower at St Pancras on Monday 22nd January, space is extremely limited and tickets for this must be reserved in advance.

More information with full programmes and tickets is available here.

About

Described by Classical Source as a "little gem" and hailed by Seen and Heard International as "remarkable" The Romsey Chamber Music Festival was founded in 2018 by violinist Laura Rickard. RCMF brings together some of the world's leading chamber musicians in concerts which highlight both well known and lesser known masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. The Festival aims to make performances of the highest quality accessible to the widest audience and has a broad programme of educational work with local schools and is a hub partner with Hampshire Music Hub.

Thank you to everyone that supported and attended RCMF this year! A month on and it's still impossible for me to pick highlights from this year's festival, from the first concert in a packed Romsey Abbey to the very final notes of Brahms Quintet it was such a joy to share the stage with all these amazing artists and to share this wonderful music with you.

You can read the critics very enthusiastic reaction to the festival here and here. We'll be back next year at the slightly later time of 25-30th June 2024, and I have a few more concerts planned between now and then so do check back here for further details.

In the meantime below is the first movement of Faure 2nd Piano Quartet from Saturday afternoon
