Jordi Carrasco Hjelm

Double Bass

Jordi Carrasco Hjelm is a Swedish double bass player focusing on chamber music and free improvisation. He lives in Amsterdam, where he was a Bachelor student in the class of Olivier Thiery and Rick Stotijn at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and finished his studies with a Masters degree in Cross-Over Music Making with the jazz violinist Tim Kliphuis in 2019.

He performs regularly as a member of the O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra led by Hugo Ticciati and as a chamber musician and improviser at festivals in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Latvia. Together with young musicians from all over Europe Jordi is a founding member of the Berlin-based ensemble c/o chamber orchestra that combines orchestral playing with principles of non-hierarchical collaboration.

Jordi has performed as a guest player with a diverse set of ensembles such as the Stuttgarter Kammerorkester, the Matthew Barley Ensemble (UK), Royal Concertgebouw Orkest (NL), the location-based improvisation concept Buro Nieuw Perspectief (NL) and the string orchestra Arte Frizzante (CH).

In 2022 he is especially looking forward to performing with jazz legends Gwilym Simcock and Nils Landgren in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, to the first performances of new chamber music pieces by composers Django Bates, Ralph Schmidt and Tom Coult and to performing Sandor Veress’s Memento with the violist Lili Maijala in the Festival Musikdorf Ernen in Switzerland.
