Emme Hensel

Flute

Emme Hensel received her ATCL flute diploma at the age of 13 and enjoys both solo and ensemble playing. As a soloist, she has performed many recitals, most recently at Romsey Abbey. Emme has participated in masterclasses and had lessons with Sir James Galway, Robert Winn, Kate Hill and Adam Walker, and more. 2024 was a successful year for Emme. She performed Reinecke’s Flute Concerto with Solent Symphony Orchestra in Portsmouth and won Rotary Wessex Musician of the Year. Emme also came first in the Young Performer category for the British Flute Society competition, winning the William Bennett prize. This was followed by her becoming Winchester Young Musician of the Year, after her performance of Ibert’s Flute Concerto with Winchester Symphony Orchestra. Emme was also elated to be awarded the Music at Beaulieu Main Award. Currently, Emme is a flautist in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and recently played in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in the summer. She was principal flute of the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra and the National Children’s Orchestra. She has performed with Wessex Sinfonietta and Nova Foresta Classical Players. She also plays piano for Hampshire County Youth Jazz Orchestra and is a keen composer. She has just started studying at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and is on the Hampshire Specialist Music Course at Peter Symonds.
