Schubert’s last completed quartet occupies a unique place in the chamber music repertoire. Written near the end of his life, it is marked by wide‑ranging expression and bold harmonic language, with dramatic shifts and richly textured writing. Its scale, emotional depth and formal subtlety have led many to regard it as one of the greatest string quartets ever written.
