14 - Water Drops
Sunday 31st May 2026 6.30pm
URC, Romsey
The festival closes with works shaped by water, air and storm. Sibelius’ Water Drops and Saariaho’s Cloud Trio explore fragile, constantly changing sound worlds, while a new string quartet by Robert Peate receives its first performance. We welcome rising star Jaehong Kim for three of Brahm's nature inspired Lieder before the festival concludes with a work new to the Festival: Beethoven’s only string quintet. Sometimes known as the “Storm” Quintet, a nickname drawn from its turbulent final movement, it stands at a turning point between his early and middle periods. Less frequently heard than many of his chamber works, it is a fascinating piece that is already full of boldness and intensity.
